1. What this is
The Cross Stitch Calculator is a free, browser-based tool that estimates finished design size, fabric cut size, floss usage, stitching time, and material cost. It is provided for hobbyists to help plan cross stitch projects.
2. Estimates are guidelines, not guarantees
Real floss usage varies with stitch tension, thread waste, fractional stitches, backstitch, French knots, fabric type, and how many times you frog (rip out) a row. The calculator uses commonly accepted rules of thumb - for example, roughly 1,000 full cross stitches per 8-meter skein on 14-count fabric with two strands. Always buy a little extra fabric and floss, especially for key colors or dye-lot-sensitive projects. We are not responsible for projects cut too short or skeins that run out.
3. No professional advice
The tool provides hobby-level information for educational and planning purposes. It is not professional manufacturing, engineering, or financial advice. If you're preparing a commercial run or a commission, verify fabric and floss requirements with your suppliers.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the site lawfully and not to misuse it - including attempting to disrupt it, scraping it excessively, or using it to do anything unlawful. The calculator itself makes no network calls for your data, so there's really nothing to hack at anyway.
5. Intellectual property
The site's design, text, and code are made available for your personal, non-commercial use. The calculator's underlying formulas are standard craft math and free for anyone to use. Cross-stitch patterns and trademarks referenced belong to their respective owners; nothing here is affiliated with or endorsed by any floss or fabric manufacturer.
6. Availability, "as is"
The tool is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We may update, change, or take the site down at any time without notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss - including ruined fabric, frayed nerves, or marathon stitching sessions caused by believing a time estimate - arising from use of the site.
8. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms occasionally. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated terms. The "last updated" date tells you when anything changed.
